Ireland's outstanding folklore tradition dates from the mythological celtic tales of the Tuatha De Danann from the Mythological Cycle, the Ulster Cycle (Cú Chulainn, The Táin), the Fenian Cycle (Na Fianna, Fionn Mac Cumhaill) and the Historical Cycle (Irish High King legends)

In addition to the legendary celtic tales, there is a tradition of Irish storytelling that has been passed on from generation to generation via the seanchaí story telling tradition.

During the 19th and early 20th centuries many of these stories have been written down and preserved. Two more recent seanchaí are Eddie Lenihan who has done wonderful work in researching and collating Irish folklore and the inimitable Eamon Kelly, Cork's famous storyteller.
