More Information
John Scotus Eriugena was reputed to be the world's most eminent philosopher between the times of Agustine and Aquina (circa 828-878 AD). The reverse of the note features an adaptation of animal and script extracts from the Book of Kells.
The overall theme from this note is based on various aspects of Irish learning in the 7th and 8th Centuries. There were 424,500,000 of these notes issued, most of these were exchanged for the £5 C Series Catherine McAuley bank note in 1992 and the bulk of the remaining notes were cashed in during the Euro changeover in 2001. This is an original note in circulated condition.
