Czech Euro Pattern Concept (Architecture)
As the Czech National Bank - the CNB - makes preparation for the Czech Republic to join the eurozone, the International Numismatic Agency has produced a first series of prototype or pattern designs with the theme of architecture.
These designs were originally submitted to the BCSA (Czech and Slovak Association) and draw upon the Czech Republic's rich architecturalheritage.
One purpose of this pattern collection is to show that even if and when the Czechs replace the traditional koruna with the euro, the Republic can retain a fine currency.
The 2 euro and 1 euro patterns spotlight the Starometske Namesti - the famous old town square of Prague. The 50 cent, 20 cent and 10 cent coins bear an image of the Ploskovice Chateau in Northern Bohemia - the building designed by the legendary Ottavio Broggio. And the copper 5, 2 and 1 cent patterns feature Telc - the old town which dates to around the 13th century AD. With its wealth of Renaissance-style houses and states, Telc has been recently added to Unesco's world heritage list.Ireland US$2.50
