Ballaghadereen
Ballaghadereen is an area that was formerly part of County Mayo. However it has been identified with Roscommon for over a century. The meaning of the name in Gaelic Irish is 'the way of the little oaks'.
In 1859, a transfer of a Costello barony in Mayo to the Barony of Frenchpark in Roscommon took place by act of Parliament.
Ballaghadereen, being the main town is the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Achrony.
