Grange

Grange (Irish: An Ghráinseach) is a village in County Sligo, Ireland.

Amenities

Rooneys is the general store in the village. Some of the local restaurants include Langs Bar & Restaurant and Wheelers (formerly Willies) locally renowned for its great taste in food and its helpful and charismatic chefs and more recently Grange has added a Chinese restaurant and take away to its list of restaurants.

People

Grange has links with Bavaria in Germany as it is the birthplace of Lola Montez (born Eliza Rosanna Gilbert).

The parish priest is Fr. Christy McHugh, born in Sligo previously was in a Roscommon parish. He is widely acclaimed for his singing skills.

Development

Grange is a bustling village with an tremendous community spirit. Annual events in Grange include the St. Patricks Day parade, the Agricultural Show and the very popular Grange Music Festival held every August bank holiday weekend. Because of this Grange's population is increasing, with new housing estates being built and planned.

It is also well known for its great view of the mountain Benbulben.

Grange also is close to Streedagh, the location of a fantastic beach, and one of the locations of a Spanish armada boat sinking, which is commemorated by a monument close to the beach. Lots of surfing and coastal activities are there for the visitor.

Trivia

Grange was used to film some scenes from the 1996 motion picture Independence Day, including the infamous 'the dog survives' scene.
