Tallow

It derives its name and heritage from the iron mining and smelting industry, which shaped its history. It is further distinguished as the birthplace of two John Hogans, one a poet (1780-1858) and the other a famous sculptor (1800- 1858).
Tallow is renowned for its annual Horse Fair, which attracts visitors from all corners of the globe. The area was planted by English settlers in the early 17th century and is a classic example of the settlers becoming 'more Irish than the Irish themselves'.
Tallow Hill, above the town, offers a superb vantage point, presenting panoramic views of the Blackwater Valley on one side and the Bride Valley on the other. The town of Tallow is approximately 35 km from Dungarvan, and approximately 20 km from the towns of Youghal and Fermoy, in county Cork.
